In cleaning out for the garage sale, my mom found this and would not let me get rid of it. I have little sentimental attachment to things and I did not see the point...until I read this little book again. It is a "Survival Guide" our parents made us when we graduated OLQH in 1994 and it is filled with over 200 pieces of advice and sayings. Some of my favorites include:
#4 You can fail many times, but you are not a failure until you begin to blame someone else.
#18 When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.
#21 The mind is like a parachute- it only works when it's open.
#36 A smile is a curve that can often set things straight.
#38 An apology is a good way to have the last word.
#46 Never sell your puppy.
#52 The key to life is adaptability to change.
#68 Always be at your best because people often look for the worse.
#71 It's always easier to keep up than to catch up.
#189 If you can't have the best of everything, make the best of everything you have.
#177 "When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astounded at how much he had learned in seven years."
---Mark Twain
That last one makes me laugh because it makes me remember how stupid I thought my parents were sometimes when I was in high school...but really I was the stupid one.
